Input Remapping

Full button and axis remapping for any controller or racing wheel. Map any physical input to any Xbox controller button or axis. Perfect for non-standard controllers, fighting game pads, or custom button layouts.

Square Input

Transform circular analog stick input into square input. Reach 100% input at diagonal angles instead of being limited to ~70% by the circular range. Essential for racing games and any game where diagonal movement matters.

Deadzone Configuration

Customize or completely remove controller deadzones. Fine-tune center and edge deadzones for more responsive input. Perfect for worn controllers, racing wheels, or achieving maximum precision in competitive games.

Xbox Controller Emulation

Convert any DirectInput device into a virtual Xbox controller for maximum game compatibility. Works with racing wheels, PlayStation controllers, generic gamepads, and more. Many games work best with Xbox controllers now any device can be one.

Quick Setup

Get started in under 2 minutes

1

Install the driver

Download and install ViGEmBus first. This driver creates the virtual Xbox controller that TrueAxis uses to communicate with your games.

2

Run TrueAxis

Launch the app. No installation required just extract the downloaded ZIP file and run the executable. It's completely portable and leaves no traces on your system.

3

Setup & Activate

Select your input device from the dropdown menu. Optionally click Configure Buttons to map inputs to Xbox controller buttons, then click ACTIVATE to start the virtual controller.

4

Play Your Games

Minimize the app and launch any game. Your controller will appear as an "Xbox 360 Controller" with all your customizations applied. Works with any game that supports controllers!

Pro Tip: When you click "Configure Buttons" in the app, press any button on your device and it will light up blue in real-time. This helps you identify each button quickly and map it accurately to the corresponding Xbox controller button.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about controller input and emulation

What is square input? +
Square input allows your analog stick to reach 100% steering at diagonal angles. Normally, analog sticks are limited by their circular range if you push diagonally, you only get about 70% input. Square input fixes this by mapping the circular range to a square, so diagonals reach 100%.
Why do some games not recognize my controller properly? +
Many games are optimized specifically for Xbox controllers and may not fully support other input devices. Non-Xbox controllers can experience issues like reduced input range, button mapping problems, or not being detected at all. TrueAxis fixes this by converting any controller into a virtual Xbox 360 controller that games recognize perfectly.
What controllers and devices does TrueAxis support? +
TrueAxis works with any controller or input device that appears as DirectInput or XInput on Windows. This includes racing wheels (Logitech G29, G920, G923, Thrustmaster T150, T300, TMX Pro), PlayStation controllers (DualShock 4, DualSense), generic gamepads, arcade sticks, and more. If Windows detects it, TrueAxis can emulate it as an Xbox controller.
How do I customize or remove controller deadzone? +
TrueAxis provides full deadzone configuration for both center and edge deadzones. You can reduce or completely remove deadzones to make your input more responsive, or increase them if you have drift issues. This is especially useful for worn controllers, sensitive racing wheels, or competitive gaming where precision matters.
Is TrueAxis safe and free to use? +
Yes, TrueAxis is completely free, open-source, and safe. It's a portable Windows application that requires no installation and leaves no traces. The source code is available for review.
